Dog registration scheme

For a fee of £3.00 dog owners can register their dog as part of the dog registration scheme. Around 1,250 dogs are already in the scheme.

As a result they get a quality tag containing the dog's details.

If the dog then strays and is found by a dog warden, it will be returned to its home. The first time this happens this will be free of charge.

If the dog cannot be returned home, it will be kept in council authorised kennels from where it can be collected by its owner. On the first occasion this happens this is free of charge, as long as the dog is collected on the same day (there is a charge if the dog has to stay in the kennels any longer).

"By law your dog should wear a collar and tag or other form of identification while in a public place."
Environmental Protection Act 1990
Control of Dogs Order 1992

Registration forms are available to complete online - Dog registration form.

If you would like more information about the scheme please contact the dog warden on 01724 297000.
