Animal Movement Licence

The following information is a brief summary of the animal movement scheme. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) website provides full guidance notes and information on the scheme.

Pigs

A completed AML2 movement document must accompany all pig movements.

The owner or keeper at the destination premises must report any movement to the local council. You can do this by sending or faxing the white copy of the document to the council. You must do this within three days of the movement taking place.

The departure holding retains the yellow copy.

The destination holding retains the pink copy for at least six months.

The council's Trading Standards and the British Pig Association can supply AML2 forms.

Sheep, goats and deer

A completed AML1 movement document must accompany all sheep, goat and deer movements.

Cattle

All cattle movements (with the exception of breeding bulls) must be notified to the British Cattle Movement Services (BCMS) within three days of the movement.
