Parent Partnership Service (PPS) North Lincolnshire
It is a statutory requirement for every local council to provide a Parent Partnership Service (PPS). The PPS is funded by North Lincolnshire Council but operates at ‘arms length’. The service offers a free and confidential service to the parents/carers of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
It recognises that all parents/carers have a unique understanding of their children and have a crucial role to play in their education and development. It aims to empower parents/carers so that they can become informed participants in the partnership that should exist between home, school and the council.
Through individual casework, it aims to:
- Listen to your views and concerns
- Explain your rights and responsibilities
- Give impartial information and honest advice
- Provide practical help with form-filling and letter writing
- Support you at meetings or school visits
- Facilitate local mediation to resolve disagreements
- Make contact with other sources of support for your family
- Support you in encouraging your child to express their views and be involved in decisions that affect them
- Provide access to a trained volunteer – Independent Parental Supporter (IPS).
It also plays a role in providing training and in encouraging parental participation in the development of parent-friendly policies and practices.
The service aims at early intervention to prevent differences from developing into disputes and promote positive relationships and outcomes.
