Q. How do I apply for transport to college or school?
If you are able to travel on the public bus service to college without support you need to complete the blue application form (DA7). Give the form to your college so it can confirm the details of the course you are following.
Copies of the form are available from:
- Your student support office at college
- The council's Education Transport service at Hewson House (phone 01724 297218)
- or by downloading from this website
If you are unable to use public transport or need support you need to complete the application form P16/5 available from the Education Transport Office, Hewson House (see contact number above). If you need any help in completing the form you should ask your Connexions Personal Adviser.
Q. Will the transport cost me anything?
There is a one-off annual charge of £25 to cover the cost of your application. Once transport has been approved a request for payment will be sent to you.
Q. Will I automatically receive transport for the second year of my course?
No. You need to make an application through your personal advisor each year.
Q. How will I find out about my transport once I have sent off my application form?
You will receive a letter giving details of the transport that has been arranged. You should receive this by 25 August if we received your application from Connexions by 31 July.
Q. Will transport be provided door to door?
Not necessarily. It will depend on your capabilities and special needs.
Q. If I move house or change my course what should I do?
Any change in circumstances should be notified to Education Transport (phone 01724 297218). They will decide whether you are still eligible for free/ concessionary transport.
Q. I wish to attend a college outside of North Lincolnshire. Can I still apply for transport?
If the Learning and Skills Council or Special Education Needs Section has organised an out-of county placement we will normally offer a mileage allowance. This will help parents to transport students at the beginning and end of each half term (a total of 12 return journeys per year), if there is no other transport available.
Q. I have my own transport. Can I claim for travel expenses?
This option is normally only available where there is no other transport available. You should send a covering letter with your application if you wish to apply for travel expenses.
Q. Will my transport stay the same all year?
Not necessarily. During your course you may follow an independent travel training programme. This may lead to a change in the pick-up arrangements or the transport provided.
Q. Is any other help available?
Education Maintenance Allowances (EMAs) are available to students with a date of birth after 31.8.87 with a household income of less than £30,810 per annum.
Learner Support Awards may be available to students who need extra financial help, depending on circumstances. The college or the council administers these if you are studying at a school sixth form.
Q. If I am unhappy with any decision made about my transport can I appeal?
Yes. You have the right to appeal against the decision. Please contact us on the number below, or email to ask for details.
Q. If I am over 19 or attending a part-time course will I receive any transport support?
We are willing to consider applications for students who do not meet the eligibility criteria. The college and Connexions/ SEN section must support such applications; for example if the course is part time, or if the student is over 19 and this is related to the student’s educational progression. Any support given will depend on the student’s individual circumstances and on resources being available.
