Academic year 2007/8
If you are considering applying to a college or school to continue your education, you may be unable to travel without support. If this is the case, you could be eligible for help with your transport.
Students with special needs who are able to use public transport should refer to the blue Post 16 Transport Policy leaflet.
Courses covered
Your chosen course of study must be full time and have at least 450 guided learning hours, and at least 30 weeks of further education at a publicly funded institution.
School/college attended
The course must be at a college or school within North Lincolnshire unless:
- the out-of-county college placement is organised by the Learning Skills Council and supported by North Lincolnshire Council
- the course is not available in North Lincolnshire
- The college you are applying to is more accessible to your home
- North Lincolnshire Council’s Special Education Needs Section has supported and funded the placement

- You must be living in North Lincolnshire on the first day of your course. And you must have been ordinarily resident in the British Isles for at least three years prior to the start of the course
- Or you must qualify for free tuition by satisfying other criteria laid down by the Department for Education and Skills.
Anyone who moves to North Lincolnshire for the purpose of receiving full-time education is not eligible to receive the council’s support.
Three year limit
We will normally only give support for a maximum of three years.
Disability
You may be eligible for support if you are not able to travel on public transport, or need extra support to do so. If you had a statement of special educational needs (SEN) at school, or have a medical condition that makes using public transport difficult, you may be eligible for support.
