New school food standards

There are two principal sets of standards for transforming school lunches.

Food-based – will define the types of food and drink that children and young people should be offered in a school lunch, and how often they are served.

Nutrient-based – will set out the proportion of nutrients, such as iron and calcium, that children and young people should receive from a school lunch.

These were introduced into schools in September 2006, and will be fully implemented in primary schools by 2008 and secondary schools by 2009.

North Lincolnshire Council is proud to be meeting the food based standards and is already close to meeting the nutritional standards for primary schools. We anticipate meeting all standards well in advance of the timescales given.
