Pupils are entitled to free school meals if their parents receive:
- Income support
- Income based job seekers' allowance
- Employment support allowance (income related)
- Child tax credit allowance with no working tax credit and an annual income below £16,190
- Pension credit
- Support under part V1 of the immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
The council will not backdate free school meal claims. But free school meals will continue until the first pay day when a parent returns to work and state benefits stop. This is to compensate for any delay at the start of the claim.
The council reviews claims for free school meals several times a year. It is important parents complete these forms by the due date. Free school meals will stop if forms are not returned by the due date. Parents will then have to meet the cost of school meals.
