School meals

The council is fortunate to have a school meals service. We offer hot, freshly cooked meals in all North Lincolnshire's schools.

We never underestimate the immense contribution we can make to the health, nutrition and education of pupils.

Now, more than ever, the midday meals served to pupils is pivotal in a child’s day at school, helping pupils to live and learn.

We are committed to working in partnership with schools to provide catering services which ensure value and high levels of satisfaction.

All meals are nutritionally balanced over the course of a week. Menus are compiled to meet all current food standards, as well as providing meals that will be appetising to children.

Pupils can sit down together and enjoy their lunch, while developing social skills that are vital for later years.

As a non-profit making organisation, we are dedicated to building on our success by having the pupils' interests at heart. In order to work effectively, we work in partnership with other council services and organisations.

Examples of these are:

  • Healthy Schools team
  • Environmental Health
  • Trading Standards
  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council
  • Grimsby College
  • Extended Schools team.

We are also active members of LACA (Local Authority Caterers’ Association) and sit on the School Food Reference Group. The group feeds information to and from the School Food Trust. This ensures we continue to be aware of national initiatives.

School meals are available to all children attending school, either free of charge or on payment.

Meals in primary schools are a traditional two-course meal. All plain whole milk and plain semi-skimmed milk attracts a subsidy from the European community school milk subsidy scheme. This reduces the cost of set meals in primary schools.

A wide choice of healthy food is provided in a cafeteria for most secondary school children.
