How to apply for a place if your child is due to move to secondary school
The
co-ordinated scheme for admission to secondary school will enable you to apply,
either online or on a common application form, for three schools ranked in order
of preference. These schools can be within North Lincolnshire,
including voluntary aided schools, or within a neighbouring LA.
All
parents/guardians of pupils who live within North Lincolnshire whose child is
due to transfer to secondary education in September 2009 must either
apply online or complete a common application form.
You
can name up to three schools, which must be listed in rank order.
Rank order means you should name the schools starting with your highest
preference first.
Parents
of children who are due to transfer to secondary school in September 2009 and
live within North Lincolnshire will be sent information via their child's current
school. If your child currently attends a school outside
North Lincolnshire this information will be posted to your home address.
CO-ORDINATED
SCHEME FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
North
Lincolnshire Council has entered into co-ordinated arrangements with admission
authorities within our own LA and also neighbouring LA's for the processing
of admission applications.
These
arrangements have been made with St Bede's Catholic School and The St Lawrence
Academy (admission authorities in their own right), Doncaster, Hull, East Riding
of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
A
co-ordinated scheme means generally that
- Parents must make application through their home LA
- Information will be exchanged between admission authorities.
- All parents who have expressed a preference for a school by the closing
date will receive only one offer of a school place on the same day - 2 March
2009.
The
co-ordinated scheme for North Lincolnshire will follow the process outlined
below.
- All parents must either apply online or complete the common application
form;
- Parents to name three schools on their online application or common application
form;
- Schools named on their online application or common application form should
be in rank order;
- The LA will then determine whether or not the child Is eligible for admission.
If the governing body or a neighbouring LA are responsible for admission they
will determine who is eligible and inform the home LA;
- Parents will receive a single offer of a school place;
- All offers of a school place will be made by the LA. This includes those
determined by other admission authorities within North Lincolnshire or a neighbouring
education authority where they are responsible for allocating places;
- All offers of a school place to be sent to parents on the same day;
- Where the LA cannot offer a place at any of the named schools the parent
will be offered a place at the next nearest school with places available.

authority, (e.g house move) the LA will be willing to consider it up to 17 January
2009. Where applications are received after the 17 January 2009, or without
a good reason for not meeting the deadline, pupils will be allocated a place
using the following criterion:
- Those who have applied online or submitted a common application form by
the closing date will be allocated places first. If further places are available
at the preferred school the parent will be offered a place but if all places
have been taken the parent will be refused and offered the right to appeal.
