12. Attendance at school

Your child must go to school regularly so he/she can learn, achieve and make friends.

Even if your child misses school occasionally, it can affect their work.

It is your responsibility to make sure that your child goes to school regularly and on time.

You should take your holidays during school holiday time,  if you have to go away during term, talk to your child’s school about your plans first.

Your child’s head teacher should approve any time out of school in advance.

Unauthorised absence from school may result in the council taking legal action against you.  This may be though the court or in the form of a penalty notice.

If you think your child is having difficulties in school or seems reluctant to go, talk to the school, share your concerns and find out more.

If you need any help or advice regarding school attendance, or any issues which effect your child’s attendance, you can contact the Education Support Service on 01724 870776.

Parenting advice and support is also available through the service.
