Individual schools submit entries for public examination (normally General Certificate of Secondary Education, or General Certificate of Education at 'A' level) after pupils' performances in each subject have been assessed and after parents have been consulted.
Schools have delegated powers as prescribed by the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998 (as amended by the Education Act 2002 and The Education and Inspections Act 2006) and will have delegated funds under the Authority's formula, to pay for examination entry fees where the examinations have been approved by the Secretary of State for Education.
If a pupil who has been entered for examinations does not take them without good reason the parents will be required to pay the fees of those examinations missed.
Where parents wish their child to submit in one school term the same subject for examination by more than one examination board, then the school will not pay the additional examination fees involved, although with the consent of the school the parents may do so.
If other arrangements apply individual schools will advise parents accordingly at the appropriate time.
