School visits are a great learning opportunity for pupils. They provide learning experiences that cannot be taught in the classroom.
School visits can help:
- Pupils to develop initiative.
- Increase levels of resourcefulness.
- Increase independence.
It is essential that all visits are carried out with the highest regard for the safety and welfare of the pupils taking part in them.

An Educational Visits Policy is accessible online. It is available to all school staff and governors, via the TeacherZone website. It is listed under 'MyClasses'. The Educational Visits class contains the full policy and up to date relevant information. In addition it has links to other sites, a forum and all documentation needed for planning a school visit.
Guidelines have been developed by the Department for Education and Skills to provide helpful and practical advice to council’s, governing bodies, head teachers and teachers involved in school visits. The Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational Visits Guidelines can be viewed on the TeacherNet website.
