Which schools will be involved?

Artist impressions of BSF schools

These artist impressions are the first visual images of how the new BSF schools may look. The images are working documents. BSF is a living project and the plans will be developed as the programme progresses.

BSF will be delivered in two stages. The first stage includes Scunthorpe’s secondary schools, as listed below. The second stage, to begin around 2013, will include the remaining rural schools in North Lincolnshire. Despite the programme being split into two stages the latest ITC facilities will be available in all school - no matter what stage they are in.

See the latest plans and images for the BSF schools.

Each school page shows our initial plans for transformation. These plans will be reviewed as we develop each school. This will allow potential contractors to bid for the work. Each artist impression reflects an affordable plan within the present BSF budget.

The schools individual pages clearly states which buildings could be demolished, refurbished or completely rebuild.

The BSF programme can't fully rebuild every school in the country. Each council has to prioritise which schools require full and partial rebuild within the money available. The council also has to remove surplus places due to falling school rolls. This means the new and refurbished schools will be designed to cater for forecasted pupils numbers in 2015. But each school will have the capacity to expand if pupil numbers increase beyond these projected numbers.

Current school plans

The initial plans for each school have been developed further to create a control option. The purpose of each control option is to consider which buildings could be retained, demolished and how much new build was required. The control options are then costed by external consultants to ensure the total scheme is affordable. The plans, displayed in the individual school pages, are working documents only for our Outline Business Case (OBC).

Melior Community College and Brumby Engineering College are the programmes sample schemes. These will allow potential bidders to prepare a bid to win the contract to remodel all of our schools. These plans are a reference point to allow us to estimate within the budget that we have, and to give an impression of a potential school layout. We expect the bidders will provide even better building solutions that are still affordable.

Outline planning applications have been submitted which allow the council to consider the plans for the two reference schemes. These plans are an example of how the schools could be transformed.
