Children's centres

Children’s centres are at the heart of the Government’s strategy to deliver better outcomes for children and families.

They are a vital part of the Government’s 10-year childcare strategy to enable all families with children to have access to an affordable, flexible, high quality childcare place for their child.

Children's centres offer:

  • Family support and parental outreach
  • Child and family health services
  • Links with schools and the Children's Information Service
  • Early learning integrated with childcare
  • Job Centre and training.

Many children's centres also provide a range of other services, for example:

  • Midwives and health visitors
  • Welfare rights
  • Childminders
  • Social services
  • Adult education
  • Day care
  • Local Connexions team.

The council has been planning the location and development of centres to meet the needs of local communities, in consultation with:

  • Parents
  • The private, voluntary and independent sector
  • PCTs
  • JobCentre Plus
  • And other key partners.

The council has recently completed the delivery and designation of the Phase 2 Sure Start Children's Centres. This is a significant achievement and an important milestone for North Lincolnshire.
