Children’s centres are at the heart of the Government’s strategy to deliver better outcomes for children and families.
They are a vital part of the Government’s 10-year childcare strategy to enable all families with children to have access to an affordable, flexible, high quality childcare place for their child.
Children's centres offer:
- Family support and parental outreach
- Child and family health services
- Links with schools and the Children's Information Service
- Early learning integrated with childcare
- Job Centre and training.
Many children's centres also provide a range of other services, for example:
- Midwives and health visitors
- Welfare rights
- Childminders
- Social services
- Adult education
- Day care
- Local Connexions team.
The council has been planning the location and development of centres to meet the needs of local communities, in consultation with:
- Parents
- The private, voluntary and independent sector
- PCTs
- JobCentre Plus
- And other key partners.
The council has recently completed the delivery and designation of the Phase 2 Sure Start Children's Centres. This is a significant achievement and an important milestone for North Lincolnshire.
