Instrumental lessons

Music Support Service staff are employed to teach pupils in small groups. Occasionally, pupils may receive individual tuition for a specific reason. Groups should be encouraged to play and practice together, developing social, co-operative and musical skills.

Staff also support:

  • National Curriculum music
  • GCSE and A level examinations
  • national instrumental music examinations
  • concerts and other musical activities in schools and for wider audiences.

The normal arrangement is that pupils are withdrawn from their timetabled school lessons to receive instrumental tuition. Whenever it is practically possible, tuition is provided on a rota basis to minimise timetable disruption. Pupils will be encouraged to complete any school coursework missed at the earliest opportunity.

The service will attempts to be flexible in responding to school timetabling requests.

Parental supervision of practice at home is a necessary support. Whenever difficulties with home practice sessions arise, consultation will take place with schools to arrange practice opportunities within the school day.
