Further musical opportunity

One of the most exciting aspects of playing a musical instrument or singing is the prospect of taking part in an instrumental or vocal ensemble. The skills involved in making music with others complement and extend those of individual music making.

Pupils who receive Music Support Service tuition will, as soon as they reach the appropriate standard, be encouraged to take part in:

  • duets
  • trios
  • small groups
  • larger ensembles
  • other performance opportunities organised by the school or Music Support Service.

Involvement in ensembles is seen as a necessary part of the learning process. A good deal of thought and care is given to the way pupils are introduced to and nurtured in their new musical environments. Taking part in these most rewarding activities may involve commitment to rehearsals and performance schedules. These could be at lunchtimes and outside of the school day.
