The Young People’s Education Centre is in the grounds of Henderson Avenue Primary School. The centre provides tutoring for pre and postnatal students up to the age of 19.
The centre has expanded so that other groups of young learners can receive tutoring at the centre. A referral for consideration for placement for these learners can only be made by the mainstream school. This is part of the Government’s lead in the 14-19 curriculum and the wider inclusion strategy.
Students continue with their studies and sit their exams with least disruption. They receive personal development programmes tailored to their individual needs.
The teaching provided includes:
- A full range of GCSE examination subjects
- GNVQ
- ASDAN
- Key Skills
- Wider Key Skills
- Basic skills literacy and numeracy at levels 1 & 2
- Work based learning.
The centre aims to meet each student's needs in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Babies and toddlers are cared for on the premises. The crèche is Ofsted approved. There are two full-time teachers, one of whom is the Head of Service, a support assistant and four nursery nurses. An admin officer supports the staff. A management panel acts as ‘a critical friend’ for the management of the centre. School representatives, councillors and staff make up the management panel.

The Head of Service receives all referrals.
