Hearing Impaired Unit

The Hearing Impaired Unit is based at Westcliff Primary School.

Its work involves:

  • Placements for pupils with a hearing impairment from 3 to 11 years old (Foundation, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2)
  • For pupils who require an intensive level of support to access the National Curriculum
  • Two sound proof rooms for individual and small group work
  • Inclusion in mainstream classes
  • Flexible programmes of support
  • Specialist speech and language teaching from a qualified teacher of the deaf who is based in the Hearing Impaired Unit
  • In class support from a specialist teaching assistant
  • Language assessment
  • Planning and delivery of individual speech and language programmes
  • Modifications to mode of access and methods of assessment
  • Support for parents and families
  • Assess to regular speech therapy in the Hearing Impaired Unit
  • The pre-school Music Therapy Group meets in the Hearing Impaired Unit.
