Hearing Support Team

The council's Hearing Support team provides support for children with a permanent hearing impairment. It supports them and their families from birth and throughout school life. The team also advises schools on children with fluctuating or temporary hearing loss.

The team comprises:

  • Qualified teachers of the deaf
  • Specialist teaching assistants
  • Educational audiologist
  • Secretarial support

Provision:

  • Early years family support
  • Music therapy group
  • Hearing Impaired Unit at Westcliff Primary School
  • Individual specialist speech and language teaching
  • In class and tutorial support to promote inclusion in mainstream schools
  • Specialised equipment
  • Deaf awareness training
  • Placement in specialist units/schools according to need
  • Working with health professionals in clinics and hospitals
  • Audiological assessments
