Family Learning Projects

The following are some of the projects the council is involved with in schools and the wider community:

  • Keeping up with the children -

    (length 6 weeks x 2 hours)

  • Keeping up with the children+

    (length 12 weeks x 2 hours) 

These projects give parents information about the literacy hour and the daily maths lesson. It introduces parents to how their children are taught and how they can help. It also helps parents to improve their own literacy and numeracy skills.

Early start

Length 30 to 40 hours 

This is a programme for parents of children aged 0 to three years based on the Birth to Three document. It gives parents an awareness of child development and helps them support their child’s early language development through speaking and listening.

Family numeracy courses

Length 10 weeks x 4½ hours

 

This project raises standards of numeracy for parents and children. It will help extend parental skills in supporting their children’s developing numeracy skills.

Family numeracy workshops

Short course

 

This offers practical numeracy activities, linked to the National Numeracy Strategy, which parents can develop at home.

Family literacy courses

Length 12 weeks x 6 hours

 

These courses are designed to help raise standards of literacy for parents and children. They help extend parental skills in supporting their children’s developing literacy skills.

Family literacy workshops

Short course

 

These offer practical literacy activities, linked to the National Literacy Strategy, which parents can develop at home.
