Whole communities are coming together to experience family learning. Parents, children, schools and the wider community benefit from events such as:
- the successful Art in Park
- workshops
- longer family programmes arranged by the council's Adult Education Service
The council works with other organisations to make sure everyone can access
family learning opportunities.
Family programmes and events:
- Focus on the fun element of learning
- Give parents an awareness of child development
- Help parents to support their child’s early language development through play
- Introduce parents to how their children are taught and ways in which they can support them
- Raise standards of literacy and numeracy for parents and children
- Offer practical activities linked to the Primary National Strategy
- Encourage the shared use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)resources to make personalised calendars and t-shirts
- Give parents the chance to work towards nationally recognised qualifications
Family learning is free for all families.
Parents should keep an eye out in their community for details of events taking place in their area.
Any agencies or community groups who are interested in providing family learning opportunities should contact Kate or Jacqui.
