The Darley Centre provides short-term support for pupils with social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
The length of placement and type of support is negotiated before any placement begins. This negotiation is between:
- Schools.
- Parents/carers.
- Pupils.
- Partner agencies.
The centre helps pupils gain the skills they need to return and complete their education. This could be either in a mainstream school or the most appropriate alternative.
Staff at the Darley Centre rely on the principles of:
- Trust.
- Respect.
- Understanding.
- Hard work.
Pupils are rewarded for being cooperative, considerate and trying their best. They are aware of the consequences of inappropriate behaviour.
Pupils follow a series of lessons across the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 range. These are designed to supplement the work missed in school. More time is devoted to the personal, social, health and citizenship curriculum area. This is to address the issues of low self esteem and dealing with aggression.
The headteacher at the Darley Centre is happy to discuss individual concerns with colleagues in mainstream schools before a referral. To request a place at the Darley Centre for a pupil, the school needs to complete a referral form. This is then considered by the Key Stage 3/4 moderating panel on a bi-monthly basis.
Sessions at the centre are:
- morning – 9am-12.30pm.
- afternoon – 1pm – 2.45pm.
