Pupils are entitled to free school meals if their parents receive income support or income based job seekers' allowance.
Under the new child tax credit regulations, pupils are entitled to free school meals if their parents:
- Have an annual income of under £15,575
- Are not in receipt of working family tax credit.
The council will not backdate free school meal claims. But free school meals will continue until the first pay day when claimant's return to work and state benefits stop. This is to compensate for any delay at the start of the claim.
The council reviews claims for free school meals several times a year. It is important parents complete these forms by the due date. Free school meals will stop if forms are not returned by the due date. Parents will then have to meet the cost of school meals.
Copies of the following forms are all available to download and print off:
- Education benefits
- How to fill in the form and get your benefits
- Proof of income support/income based job seekers allowance.
These forms can be filled in and taken to your nearest Local Link Office with proof of income support/income based job seekers allowance.
