Entry for public examinations
Individual schools submit entries for public examination. These exams are normally:
- The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).
- The General Certificate of Education at 'A' level.
Schools submit entries for exams after assessing pupils' performances in each subject and consulting parents.
Schools receive money from the council to pay for exam entry fees. This applies to exams that are approved by the Secretary of State for Education.
If a pupil who has been entered for exams does not take them without good reason, the parents will have to pay the fees for the missed exams.
Where parents want their child to submit the same subject for examination by more than one exam board in the same school term, the school will not pay the additional examination fees involved. Parents can pay the additional fees if the school gives consent.
If other arrangements apply, individual schools will advise parents accordingly at the appropriate time.
