Early years and childcare education and training

The Adult Education Service provides a range of childcare courses mainly at the Brumby Adult Community Centre.

Courses include:

  • CACHE Certificate in pre-school practice
  • CACHE Diploma in pre-school practice
  • CAHCE Level 3 Certificate in early years foundation stage practice
  • CACHE Level 3 Diploma in homebased child care
  • CACHE Level 2 Certificate for teaching assistants
  • CACHE Level 3 Certificate for teaching assistants
  • NCFE Level 2 Creative crafts for childcarers.

There are plenty of childcare classes for you to choose from with Adult Education, but you may not have heard about a new course we are running at our Brumby Adult Community Learning Centre which combines both childcare with arts and crafts. It's the perfect progression course for those in a childcare setting such as teaching assistants or classroom supports.

New course for January 2009

NCFE Level 2 creative crafts for childcarers

This course is aimed at people working within the pre-school or school setting. No prior knowledge is needed to study this course.

The areas covered on the course can be linked to art, design technology and other areas of the national curriculum.

Learners will be taught the basic skills needed to complete craft projects. On the course you will look at ways of adapting resources and equipment and you will be shown where ideas can be accessed through a variety of different sources.

During the 30 weeks, the course will be split into three units. Each unit consists of a total of 20 hours.

  • Unit one - Explore available resources to develop basic craft skills
  • Unit two - Explore and develop ideas creatively
  • Unit three - Create, present and review a final craft item.

During this course, learners will need to keep a portfolio of work and produce two final craft items. Some of the materials used throughout the course can be purchased from the tutor if required.

Craft areas covered include:

  • Silk and fabric painting
  • Paper machè
  • Weaving
  • Scrap booking
  • Card making
  • Collages
  • Sewing skills
  • General painting skills.

Progression:

NCFE level 3 creative mixed craft course.
