As long as you are aged 16 (and have left school) or over you are welcome to join any certificated course listed in the current brochure. The fees for courses are shown in the lists of courses.
Fees for certificated courses are usually indicated in bold text in the printed copy of the brochure. If you are viewing the courses online please ask the centre whether your course is certificated or not if you are unsure.
Certificated course fees are set in line with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) requirements. Fees for non-certificated courses are based on £2.20 per hour.
All learners will be charged a £5 administration fee for each non-vocational, full-term course enrolment, including those eligible for a reduced fee.
A full refund on the examination fee for vocational courses only will be issued to those who achieve (for those enrolling from January 2010)
Evidence must be produced to support a nil fee or reduced fee at the time of enrolment.
Skills for Life
Literacy and numeracy classes are normally free, however a fee will be payable by non EU/non UK residency learners.
ESOL
These classes are charged at £65.50. However these do not apply to non EU/ non UK residency learners who will be charged at a higher rate.
Subject to criteria, ESOL learners may be eligible for help with fees through the ESOL financial support fund.
Certificated courses (those printed in the brochure in bold text)
Nil fee for people in receipt of:
- Working tax credit*
- Aged 16-18 years
- Income support
- Aged 60 or over and receiving Pensions Guarantee Credit
- Council tax relief**/ housing benefit
- Job seekers allowance
- An unwaged dependent of any of the above
- Level 2 entitlement.
* and with a household income of below £15,276 as stated on the Award Notice
** excluding single person relief
Half fee for people in the following category:
- Aged 60 or over, not in receipt of Pension Guarantee Credit
Non certificated courses
Nil fee for people in receipt of:
- Working Tax Credit*
- Aged 60 or over and receiving Pension Guarantee Credit
- Income Support
- Council Tax Relief**/ Housing Benefit
- An unwaged dependent of any of the above.
