Public Consultation on the provision of a new Primary School for Lakeside

The consultation period will take place from 1 July to 30 September 2008.

Background Information

The land behind the Lakeside Retail Park (Morrisons Superstore) is scheduled for housing development. This development has now commenced. Around 1,000 houses are expected to be built there. A partnership of builders (Barratt Homes Ltd, Persimmon Homes Ltd and Stamford Homes) will be developing the site.

The designated school for pupils who will be living in this area and who are of secondary school age (11 years plus) will be Brumby Engineering College.  However, the existing primary schools (ages four-11) in the nearby area are not large enough to accommodate all of the pupils that will eventually live in these new houses.

The Proposal

It is proposed that a new Primary School will be provided on the land behind the Lakeside Retail Park. The school will accommodate 210 pupils.

The Legislative Process

Recent legislation means that before a new school is built, the council must consult with all those who may have an interest in the establishment of a new school. This will include parents, school governors, staff of local schools and local councillors.

The proposed public consultation will allow interested parties to voice their opinion.

Response to our consultation can be made in the following ways:

  1. By attending any one of the public consultation events (see list below) you will hear about the proposal and have the opportunity to raise issues
  2. An electronic response can be made via email to schoolsservices@northlincs.gov.uk.
  3. By post to The Service Director, Children, Strategy and Partnerships, Hewson House, Station Road, Brigg, DN20 8XJ using the response form below.

What happens next

Your views are important to the council; we want to know what you think.

Following the consultation, the next stage will be the publication of a public notice in the press to invite proposals for the establishment of the new school.

Public Consultation Events

Parents and any interested persons can have the opportunity to speak with officers from the council about the new school for Lakeside.

Events have been held at the following venues:

  • Grange Lane Junior School, Tuesday 1 July 2008 8.45-10am and 3pm-4.30pm
  • Grange Lane Infant School, Wednesday 2 July 2008 8.45-10am and 3pm-4.30pm
  • Holme Valley Primary School, Friday 4 July 2008 8.45-10am and 3pm-4.30pm
  • Pittwood House, Scunthorpe, Monday 7 July 2008 6pm-7.30pm and Wednesday 9 July 2008 6pm-7.30pm

Feedback

Feedback from these meetings indicate that a school for the site would be welcomed so long as not to impact on the surrounding schools. A further public meeting has been arranged at:

  •  Brumby Engineering College, Cemetery Road, Scunthorpe,  Wednesday 10 September 2008, 6.30pm-8pm.

Officers of the council will give a presentation containing further details about the proposal and the legislative process.
