Spring/Summer 2007
Mandarin Teaching
Development of a Mandarin and curriculum programme with a range of schools and council officers to enable consistency in the teaching of Mandarin across schools and by a range of language assistants.
Three shared language assistants now work in 12 schools to deliver Mandarin lessons. They also offer training to interested adults. The primary programmes have attracted significant publicity. This is a model we hope to develop further in North Lincolnshire. All assistants come from Dalian Link schools.
Han Ban Conference
Attendance at the Han Ban Conference gave more opportunities to extend partnerships, allow two new links to be established and some old ones to be refreshed. All staff who attended welcomed the opportunity to both demonstrate our progress and share the expertise of others who have had the benefit of the linking grant. The initiative was a huge success for us and we welcomed the rich range of resources received following the visit.
Autumn Term 2007
Teacher training 13 teachers from Dalian engaged in a training programme arranged by North Lincolnshire Council and Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln.
The course included accredited school based studies in North Lincs China link schools, language immersion in English and training in curriculum and teaching methodology. This programme is now so highly valued by the Education University in Dalian that they are cancelling contracts with other providers to send us more teachers next year.
Our link schools host the teachers and gain from additional Mandarin lessons and much more.
