Healthier Communities and Older People Scrutiny Panel - 5 November 2007

PRESENT:-  Councillor Barker in the chair.

 

Councillors Appleyard (Vice-Chair), Barkworth, Eckhardt, England, Ishaq MBE, and Simpson.

 

The panel met at Pittwood House, Scunthorpe.

 

12  DECLARATIONS OF PERSONAL OR PERSONAL AND PREJUDICIAL INTERESTS AND DECLARATIONS OF WHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS – there were no declarations of personal or personal and prejudicial interests.  No whip was declared.

 

13  OBESITY STRATEGY FOR NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE - Members received a presentation and conducted an interview with Trevor Parkin, Health Improvement Strategy Manager.  Mr Parkin discussed the extend of obesity within the area, described the adverse effects that obesity can have on health, outlined how the strategy was agreed, and updated members on progress on the priorities within the document. Members then asked questions about the quality of local data, funding, and the situation with children.

 

Resolved – (a) That Mr Parkin be thanked for his attendance at the meeting, (b) that a draft scrutiny brief and timetable be prepared and agreed by members, and (c) that a series of future meetings be arranged to discuss progress on the strategy.

 

14  CARING FOR CARERS – Members received an update on progress on ten recommendations as set out in the 2005 scrutiny report “Caring for Carers”.

 

Resolved – That members continue to receive regular updates on progress, taking appropriate action as necessary.

 

15  LOCAL INVOLVEMENT NETWORKS (LINks) – Members received a verbal update on progress in implementing LINks.

 

Resolved – That the situation be noted

 

16  LEADER OF THE COUNCIL’S FORWARD PLAN – The November 2007 to February 2008 edition of the Forward Plan was noted.

 

17  ADDED ITEM – There were no added items.
