The workforce is the council’s most valuable and expensive investment.
The council employs just over 7,000 employees making it the largest employer in the area. It has to make the best use of the workforce, value the people within it and be clear about what it wants to achieve through its employees.
In other words, the council needs to to plan how it will attract, retain, manage and develop the workforce over the next few years. To do this, we have developed a People Strategy.
This supports the council's ‘Going Forward Together’ Strategic Plan and identifies how we will achieve council ambitions through the management, deployment and development of our employees.
Among other things, the strategy sets out what the council plans to do over the next three years to ensure that:
Everyone who works for the council is clear about what is expected from them
Managers are able to fulfil leadership and management responsibilities
We continue to recruit from a wide range of diverse groups
We maintain and strengthen our position as a good employer
Employees are paid and rewarded fairly for what they do
All work is carried out in a healthy and safe environment
Our workforce is trained and skilled to carry out jobs fully and competently.
Simon Driver, chief executive says:
"The People Strategy is about our employees and their life at work. Our workforce is our most valuable asset. Our employees and the work they do is key to transforming North Lincolnshire Council towards a better future for all"
