The council’s housing service was reinspected by the Audit Commission at the end of 2004. The reinspection report was published in March 2005. It ranks the service as 'one star' with 'excellent prospects for improvement'.
When the service was inspected in 2003 and 2001 it received a ‘zero’ rating. At the inspection in October 2003 inspectors judged that the service had 'uncertain' prospects for improvement.
The report says that the service now has ‘excellent prospects for improvement’ because:
- There is a clear commitment at all levels in the council to improve services.
- Both staff and councillors for the first time are clear about their different roles on repairs and maintenance and their lines of accountability.
- The council actively seeks tenant feedback and uses this to improve the service.
- Tenant and resident involvement is promoted.
