Counter Fraud Strategy

We want to protect council money and property. This includes protecting it from those who try to steal or misuse it.

The council has a budget of around £232m. This is financed by:

  • Central government grants
  • Charges for services
  • Business rates
  • Council tax

We want to make sure that this money is used in the way it was intended. Our strategy sets out how the council will ensure there are controls in place to prevent and deter fraud and where it does occur highlight it quickly, so that an investigation can take place.

The strategy includes a whistleblowing policy, which encourages anyone to report suspicions of fraud and misuse or waste of public money. This can be done anonymously and in confidence.

If you want to report a concern please call the 'hotline' on 01724 296666 between the hours of 9am and 4pm you can speak to one of our trained staff. Outside of these hours you can leave a message. If you would prefer you can also email us at: hotline@northlincs.gov.uk or fill in our online report of suspected fraud form.

The Counter Fraud Strategy is refreshed every year and approved by our Audit Committee. The latest version approved in January 2011 is available to download.
