Ethnic monitoring in employment

Under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the council has a specific duty to monitor, by racial groups:

  • all employees
  • all applicants for jobs
  • all applicants for promotion
  • all applicants for training.

In addition, as the council employs more than 150 people, it also has a duty to monitor the number of employees from each racial group who:

  • receive training
  • benefit or suffer disadvantage as a result of performance assessments
  • are involved in grievances
  • have disciplinary action taken against them
  • end employment with the council.

This enables the council to examine the ethnic make-up of its workforce and compare this to the local community. It will also enable the cuncil to analyse how its human resource practices and procedures affect different ethnic groups. The results of ethnic monitoring must be published annually.

Ethnic monitoring supports the council’s vision for North Lincolnshire to be a place where all people can live and work together harmoniously. The council is committed to ensuring that ‘people are able to succeed in employment’.

We recognise that a diverse workforce is better able to meet the needs of all our customers. It is therefore important that our workforce reflects the population we serve enabling the council to deliver services that meet the diverse needs of the local population.
