Community cohesion

"An important part of building cohesion is to make sure people from different backgrounds and communities feel that they belong to the place in which they live"

(Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society - Government strategy for race equality and community cohesion).

Community cohesion is about engendering a sense of belonging in our communities regardless of our backgrounds or who we are. It is about being treated fairly and having equal opportunities in life and equal access to services. Therefore we must work together to create a just, cohesive society if we are to achieve the outcomes of the Equality Scheme.

There are several areas of focus for us in North Lincolnshire where community cohesion needs further development.

These include:

  • Intergenerational
  • Migrant workers
  • Young people
  • Tension monitoring.
