Your Right to Attend Council Meetings

You are always welcome to come to the meetings of North Lincolnshire Council and its committees. Indeed, the council would welcome a high level of public interest in its affairs.

It is important that the public understands the workings of the council - after all, it is the largest employer in North Lincolnshire, with around 6,000 staff, and has an annual budget of £200m. The decisions taken by the council affect us all. They cover services such as education, social services, housing, leisure, environmental health, highways, planning, plus much more.

The press and public can attend and observe most council and committee meetings. The council encourages and welcomes public interest in its work.

You can find out the dates and times of our Forthcoming Meetings page. Details are also available from Pittwood House in Scunthorpe, The Angel in Brigg, the public libraries in Barton, Brigg, Crowle and Scunthorpe as well as in all Local Link offices.

Meetings are held in mornings, afternoons and evenings at venues, such as village halls and council offices, throughout North Lincolnshire.

Sometimes, usually near the end of meetings, the public will be asked to leave if 'exempt' business has to be dealt with. Exempt business is of a confidential nature and might concern staff, financial details, legal issues, business matters or negotiations.
