Council tax appeals

Appeals against valuation bands

You can appeal if you think that your property is in the wrong valuation band but you must first bear in mind that your property was valued in April 1991. Changes in the general market values since that date will not affect its banding. You will need to show that there has been a misunderstanding over the value of your property, or that its value in relation to other properties in North Lincolnshire has changed. If you want to make enquiries about this you should contact:

The Listing Officer
Heritage House
Fisherman's Wharf
Grimsby
DN31 1SY

Tel. 01472 622500

Valuation office website

Please note: Making an appeal against your banding does not allow you to withhold payment of your council tax instalments. You should continue to pay as normal until your appeal is resolved.

Appeals against your liability to pay

You can also appeal if you think you are not liable to pay council tax. This could be because someone else is liable for the council tax bill, or it could be because you live in an exempt property. You can also appeal if you think there is a mistake in your bill. If you want to appeal please write to the council tax section at:

P.O. Box 40
Brigg
DN20 8XB

Please state why you disagree with what you are being charged.

Please note: Making an appeal against your liability to pay does not allow you to withhold payment of your council tax instalments. You should continue to pay as normal until your appeal is resolved.
