In June 1997, North Lincolnshire Council agreed its policy position on twinning and linking activities.
This was necessary following local government reorganisation in April 1996. After this reorganisation, the council took over a number of commitments from the former borough councils of Scunthorpe and Glanford.
The council's policy is to have an 'arms length' relationship to twinning/linking activities. It does this by supporting the work of both the Scunthorpe Town Twinning Association and the Glanford Twinning Association.
The following four links are currently established with North Lincolnshire Council:
- Clamart (France), situated between Paris and Versailles.
- Luneburg (Germany), near Hamburg in northern Germany.
- Ostrowiec (Poland), situated in the Kielce district of Poland approximately 160km south of Warsaw.
- Landkreis Gifhorn (Germany), situated in Lower Saxony and close to Luneburg Heath in western Germany.
In the case of Landkreis Gifhorn and Luneburg and Clamart, the links are so well established that limited support from the council is required.
However the link with Ostroweic in Poland will be kept under review.
