Local Development Framework

The Government has recently changed the planning system in England. It made these changes through the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. It's created a new way of how we plan the future development of North Lincolnshire.

The system of structure plans and local plans has been replaced by a type of plan known as the Local Development Framework (LDF).

The LDF together with the new Regional Spatial Strategy for Yorkshire and the Humber will form the development plan for North Lincolnshire. It'll be the basis on which any planning decisions are made. The LDF will help shape the future of North Lincolnshire's towns, villages and countryside for the next 10 to 20 years.

A major feature of the LDF is that there will be more opportunities for you to get involved. This means you can help influence how we plan the future of your area.

The council's Spatial Planning team will lead the LDF process. The team will work together with local people, key groups and organisations in North Lincolnshire.

The main components of the Local Development Framework are:

Core strategy - publication

The core strategy will soon reach the publication stage. This will be the final opportunity for the community and other key players in the planning process to put forward their views on the council's proposed development strategy for North Lincolnshire.

This will be the final version of the core strategy and will be based on consultation carried at out at previous stages - the issues and options and preferred options stages - as well as the most up to date national and regional planning policy. It will also be based on a comprehensive evidence base, which has been developed during the preparation of the core strategy.

It was initially expected, as advertised in issue 76 of Direct, that this document would be published at the end of March or in early April, however due to the need to agree one of the key pieces of evidence which will underpin the document with the Environment Agency, we have had to delay publication for few weeks. Further updates on progress will be provided on this website and in the council's Direct Magazine. If you have an queries, please do not hesitate to contact:
