Dog Control Orders

This consultation finished in February 2008.

North Lincolnshire Council intended to make Dog Control Orders (DCOs) for specified areas of land to help keep the minority of irresponsible dog owners in-line with the majority of responsible dog owners.

After consulting and talking to residents, dog owners, dog groups / associations and Town andTown and Parish Councils the council was readywas ready to adopt and enforce DCOs as follows:

  • Failing to clear up after a dog; this includes all roads, verges, public open space, footpaths, public rights of way, parks etc. as well as the land indicated on the plans.
  • Allowing a dog to enter land from which dogs are excluded - fenced off children's play areas and schools.
  • A single person taking more than 4 dogs onto land: this includes all roads, verges, public open space, footpaths, public rights of way, parks etc. as well as the land indicated on the plans.

However, before it did so the council asked members of the public to take a final look at the plans and proposed DCOs and and make comments.

If, after considering any comments made as a result of this final consultation, the council decided to adopt the proposed DCOs there would be a further 7 (seven) days notice. After this anyone found breaking a DCO would be issued with an £80£80 fixed penalty notice or prosecuted, as appropriate.

The majority of dog owners are responsible, care for their animals and the adoption of the proposed DCOs should not affect them. Only those who act without consideration for others should be affected.
