Parent Partnership Service (PPS)
Service Offered:

The aim of the Parent Partnership Services is to ensure parents of children with additional needs, including the very young, have access to information and guidance about the special educational needs of their child. Access to such information means they can make appropriate, informed decisions.

(SEN Code of Practice 2001, 2:19)

It is a statutory requirement for every Local Authority to provide a Parent Partnership Service. The Parent Partnership Service in North Lincolnshire is funded by the council. It supports all five Every Child Matters outcomes by providing a range of flexible services. These include:

- Free, confidential and impartial advice and information

- Access to independent support, resources and training

- Guidance through SEN processes and procedures. Including individual education plans, assessments, statements and reviews; mediation, appeals and tribunals; school admissions, transitions and exclusions.

- Practical assistance with letter writing, reports and paperwork

- Support in preparing for or attending meetings

- Help with resolving concerns or disputes

- Signposting to other sources of information and support

Who is service for:

The service is for parents and carers of children and young people aged up to 19 years who have, or may have, additional or Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The service works with other agencies in the young people and family profession. It focuses upon encouraging parental participation, supporting the development of parent-friendly approaches and ensuring that parent’s views are heard, valued and contribute to policy and practice. The service aims to prevent problems, resolve concerns and promote effective partnerships.

Geographical area:

The service provides support to families living throughout North Lincolnshire. This includes support to parent and carers whose children are educated in or out of authority placements.

How to refer:

The service is easily approach. Parents and carers can self refer by contacting the service by phone, helpline, fax, email, letter, via our website or by attending one of the service’s weekly drop-in surgeries.

Drop-in surgeries are held every Thursday (term-time only) between 11am and 1pm at NCH Kaleidoscope, Dunstall Street, Scunthorpe, DN15 6JZ.   

Schools, settings and services can also refer but should only do so with the prior consent of the parent or carer.

Access:

The service has ground floor offices.

 

A home visiting service is also available for parents or carers who have difficulties with mobility, childcare, transport, or people who feel more comfortable discussing their concerns in their own home.

 

Information in a range of community languages and alternative formats are available upon request.

Opening Times:

Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm

A 24 hour answer phone and email service are available for enquires outside of office hours.

Home visits allow for further flexibility.
