You can now order certificates by telephone and pay by credit or debit card. Alternatively,you can use our on-line search and pay system.
To buy a certificate
There are various ways you can buy a certified copy of the relevant entry. You can:
Order and pay on our secure online site by using a debit or credit card
- Telephone the register office on 01724 843915 and pay by credit or credit card
- Visit the register office in person and complete an application form and pay the required fee
- Write to us enclosing details of the entry required, enclosing a cheque/postal order made payable to North Lincolnshire Council.

What is the cost?
The cost of the certificate depends on the service you choose.
Next day service
Personal, postal, online and telephone applications cost £9.55 for standard certificates or £8.05 for a short certificate to be sent by first class post within one working day to UK addresses .
If the address is outside the UK, the fee is £10 for a standard certificate or £8.50 for a short certificate.
Please note that a short certificate may not be acceptable for certain purposes as it does not show details of parents.
Standard service
If you apply by post or in person and don't mind how long your application takes to deal with, the fee is £7 and the certificate will be sent out using second class post. We will try to deal with your application within five working days but this is not always possible.
What if the certificate is not the one I need?
We can only send you the certificate applied for. In cases with common names it may be difficult to determine which certificate you need.
If you are not confident that the certificate applied for is the correct entry, it is best to either e-mail or write to ask us to check.
Please note that we cannot give a refund if you later find that it is not the right certificate.
There are also ancestry and genealogy websites that provide information and advice on how to trace your family tree.
Searches in indexes
North Lincolnshire Registration Service now has all historical indexes accessible on this website. This means you can search for your ancestors on-line and order certificates if you wish.
Please follow the links to "Search for and order birth, death and marriage certificates online".
You can, if you prefer, carry out a general search of the indexes personally. A fee is payable of £18 and this allows up to six hours searching.
An appointment must be made to carry out a search.
Note: No fee is payable for a search in the indexes when a particular entry in the register is specified.
