Careers information, advice and guidance

Whether you're a student wondering what to do when you leave school or college, or someone looking for a change of career, there's a range of information available to help you.

The council has a team of careers advisers who are linked to all our secondary schools and local colleges, providing careers information, advice and guidance. They work with young people aged 13 to 19-years-old (and up to 25-years-old for those with learning difficulties and disabilities) in schools, college and other settings; with young people who fall into specific vulnerable groups and offer information and advice to all young people.  Our service aims to raise aspirations, help young people move successfully from school into employment, education or training, and reduce the number of young who are NEET (not in employment, education or training).

The team is made up of qualified careers guidance advisers who offer confidential, impartial, information, advice and guidance on the following:

  • Raise aspirations
  • Choosing options at age 14, 16 and 18 plus career pathways
  • Further and higher education
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment
  • Voluntary work and volunteering
  • Finance and benefits
  • Labour market information
  • Job seeking, CVs and interview skills
