Building regulations
There are two methods of applying for building regulations approval.
These are:
- Full plans approval submission
- Building notice application.
Both types of approval involve officers inspecting the work on site at various stages. There are charges for applications. Visit our fees pages for more information.
There are some cases where building work has been done without the above procedures being followed. When this is the case it's necessary for property owners to apply for a regularisation certificate.

Complaint about the building control service?
If you want to complain about building control, first contact the building control service directly. They will try to put things right informally. Enforcement procedures
We work hard to provide a fair and accountable service. Although most issues are resolved informally, there are instances where formal enforcement is required. This is to achieve compliance with the relevant legislation.
In these cases, we'll ensure that the actions taken are in accordance with our enforcement policy. These are available to download below.
