Child tax credit
This is a new credit for families with children. It takes elements from existing credits and benefits to provide financial support to families with children. Child tax credit is intended to be payable to families both in and out of work.
Working tax credit
This is payable to people who are in employment. It can be paid to both people with children and those without. Working tax credit replaces the current adult support provisions provided through existing tax credits for working people.
The pension credit
This is made up of two elements. The first is a minimum income guarantee element. Any pensioner who receives the income guarantee element of the pension credit will be entitled to your maximum eligible housing benefit and/or council tax benefit.
The second element is the savings credit. The savings credit will reward pensioners who have a second pension, be it an occupational pension, other private pension, the new state second pension or SERPS, as well as other savings in bank, building societies or investments.
